It can’t be easy being Sarah Burton at this moment. Following the footsteps of creative genius Alexander McQueen, pictures of the first collection she designed for the brand after McQueen’s tragic death have appeared on Fashionologie and WWD.
Her inspiration for Resort 2011 came from Hans Bellmer’s dolls and Samurai Warriors. Burton wanted to create ‘a juxtapose between the pale and the delicate with the bold and the armorial. It’s about a highly structured torso, that gives way to a more fluid silhouette or dropped waists that lead to a finned trouser or skirt’. WWD wrote that the collection was ‘promising indeed’ and the black/red strapless dress ‘a stunner’. I totally agree!
Stella McCartney showed her resort 2011 collection this week. From the pictures travelling the Internet it seemed like a cool party. The clothes are to die for. Now I’m really desperate for a lace top. And I do need that cape!
